Welcome!

The BEInG (Black Youth Emotional Development & Identity in Group Context) research team is dedicated to understanding the experiences of Black youth and their families. Our research focuses on experiences of emotion expression and emotion regulation with consideration for who youth are, what youth are doing, and who youth are with when experiencing emotion.

Our primary goal is to understand how Black youth’s cultural experiences might influence these processes of emotional development and as a result, youth decision-making and social behaviors.

We aim to conduct quality research that can lead to action and is relevant to the needs of our community. The BEInG research team uses interviews, self-report surveys, and observations to understand our research goals.
